China: US pop group banned because of a tweet

The US pop group Maroon 5 have felt the wrath of China’s stringent government policies, getting banned from entering the country allegedly after posting a tweet showing support for the Dalai Lama.

The group’s Beijing and Shanghai concerts scheduled for September 2015 as a part of their larger Asian tour were cancelled with no official reasons given. It is assumedly due to a tweet keyboardist Jesse Carmichael posted, wishing the exiled spiritual leader a happy 80th birthday. Maroon 5 also took part in the Dalai Lama’s birthday summit in California recently.
