Egypt: Screenwriter threatened by Muslim Brotherhood
Some Muslim Brotherhood members launched a media attack against serialised TV show ‘The Kingdom of Yusuf Al Maghrabi’ and its screenwriter Youssef Hamdi, including resorting to blackmail, for portraying some of the group’s members in a poor light, reported online news platform Newsbookra.
The threats came after members of the group discovered that in an upcoming episode set to air during Ramadan, many leaders in the group, especially those working in major businesses and in the finance industry, are being characterised as participating in fraud, reported Bawabet Akhbar Al Youm news.
The group has resorted to personal threats on Hamdi and have accused the show’s production company, Media Production City, of corruption, citing suspiciously obtained documents that indicate a budget reaching 20 million Egyptian pounds (about USD 2.5 million) for the show.
