United Kingdom: Two concerts with Ugandan rapper cancelled

Ugandan rapper Bobi Wine (real name: Robert Kyagulanyi) has had two planned performances in the UK pulled after venues learned of the singer’s anti-LGBTI stance, reported Gay News Network on 31 July 2014.

A theatre in London and a venue in Birmingham have refused to host upcoming shows by the rapper after news surfaced the singer had written lyrics promoting violence against gay people, encouraging Ugandans to set fire to them.

Representatives from the Troxy Theatre in London and the Drum Theatre in Birmingham told Gay Star News they had banned Bobi Wine from appearing at their venues as they did not want to host someone who promoted discrimination.
