USA: Madonna launches platform to fight oppression and intolerance
‘Art For Freedom’, led by the American superstar Madonna, is a new digital initiative, an online ‘public art project’, designed to fuel free speech. ‘Art For Freedom’ encourages the world to express their personal meaning of freedom and revolution in the form of video, music, poetry or photography.
‘Art For Freedom’ will launch on 1 October 2013 with ‘secretprojectrevolution’, a short film Madonna codirected with photographer Steven Klein and distributed by Bittorrent.
“My goal is to show by the example of ‘secretprojectrevolution’ my creative commitment to inspire change in the world through artistic expression. I hope my film and other submissions to ‘Art For Freedom’ will be a call to action and give people a place to voice their own creative expression to help fight oppression, intolerance and complacency,” Madonna was quoted as saying.
“Freedom of speech. Freedom of choice. Freedom of experience. We live in a world where basic rights are under attack. Madonna and Steven Klein’s new film is a hard lens on the dystopian now; a call to join the Revolution of love. Get involved. Download the film for free on BitTorrent.”
Public submissions are to become part of the ‘Art For Freedom’ platform, which will feature a daily Art For Freedom fighter in its calendar. Contributors can join the project by uploading original artwork or tagging original posts #artforfreedom in Twitter or Instagram.
The film ‘secretprojectrevolution’ as well as bonus content has been available to the public for free since 24 September 2013 at bundles.bittorrent.com/madonna-revolution and on youtube.com where it was viewed over 250,000 times during the first 48 hours.
